Leeds City Region leaders will attend MIPIM UK this week, to set out the potential of the region to investors, with a clear objective to sell the City Region’s investment propositions and set out the opportunities and growth to key property investment decision makers attending the conference.

The Leeds City Region delegation at MIPIM UK (15-17 October 2014), the premier forum for property professionals looking to close deals in the UK market, will demonstrate to potential investors that the City Region is investment ready and driving sustainable growth. A central element of the City Region programme will see decision makers from across the North coming together to set out their intentions on driving devolution, the importance of regional collaboration and accelerating improved connectivity to enable continued growth across the North.

The bar has been set very high at this year’s MIPIM Europe and MIPIM UK is set to build on this, with the City Region’s largest private sector delegation, which is testament to the increased confidence in the property sector, strong regional leadership and a powerful and compelling programme.

Richard Threlfall, Head of UK Infrastructure, Building and Construction at KPMG: “Together our Northern city regions are a £200bn economy, a society of 11.6 million people, equating to 18% of the UK population. For too long they have competed more than they have collaborated but that is changing, and as our political and business leaders work together, so this economic powerhouse will start to stir. I am excited about the potential of the region, and believe that devolution and greater investment in infrastructure will create fertile ground to grow the combined economy.  I am proud that KPMG is backing that confidence by investing in the development of major new offices in the centres of both Leeds and Manchester.”

“MIPIM UK is a prime opportunity for Leeds City Region to highlight its varied and extensive investment potential to a private sector audience. We will demonstrate the importance of the City Region in growing the national economy, setting out our Strategic Economic Plan that we believe will drive extraordinary economic growth across the whole of the UK.”

ROGER MARSH, CHAIR OF LEEDS CITY REGION ENTERPRISE PARTNERSHIP

MIPIM UK allows Leeds City Region to build upon the strong pipeline of investment leads developed during previous MIPIM Europe events. Lurene Joseph, CEO at Leeds and Partners, outlines the importance of Leeds City Region having a presence at MIPIM UK, the organisation’s newest property forum:

“All of the UK’s biggest players in the property sector will be attending MIPIM UK, so it is hugely important for Leeds City Region to capitalise on this opportunity and illustrate the extensive and diverse offer in the city region. With key developments including Westfield’s £270m Broadway scheme in Bradford, Hammerson’s vast high-end space, Victoria Gate in Leeds, and Wakefield’s multi-use commercial and leisure Merchant Gate development led by Orion, the city region is experiencing bold and exciting growth. This regional regeneration is vital for driving a balanced economy for the UK. A stronger North will complement a thriving economy in London and the South East; this is not a zero sum game, but a clear plan to deliver increased growth and competitiveness for UK PLC overall.”

MIPIM UK is led by Leeds and Partners on behalf of the LEP and will see Bradford, Calderdale, Harrogate, Kirklees, Leeds, Wakefield and York collaborate to highlight the unique investment, development and occupier opportunities in the region, specifically those surrounding HS2, the Northern Hub and the potential for devolution.

The activity aims to establish the bold ambitions of Leeds City Region, reaching out to key investors, as well as cementing and building on the confidence and capability of the region, as previously demonstrated at MIPIM 2014. Leeds City Region’s programme of events during MIPIM UK includes a panel event, in which northern leaders will discuss building an interconnected north, as well as a private meeting with 20 key decision makers exploring future connectivity and a retail innovation showcase.

Leeds City Region at MIPIM UK is supported by the LEP and sponsored by Hammerson, Shulmans and Commercial Estates Group (CEG), with additional support from TCS, GVA, Gent Visick, Deloitte, Savills, Monaghans, Aecom, Munroe K, PwC KPMG and DLA Piper.
